Émilie Simon -- Iggy and Bowie and Kurt, oh my!

Although Monday is now for covers 'round these parts, I accidentally found a few earlier this evening by Émilie Simon and simply knew that they could and should find a home here at this modest/lame little attempt at a music blog. C/NET's Music.Download.com said that she's "one of the most accomplished female artists on the French music scene today," creating "sumptuous and unforgettable sonic dreamscapes." Bowie. Nirvana. The Stooges. She has good taste, and the songs are wonderful choices, I would imagine, for material to play with and interpret, something done with an electronica approach no less! I particularly like her performance of "Come As You Are," and "I Wanna' Be Your Dog" is surprising and surreal. Cool stuff, and I've thrown in a few originals as well. Santé!

"Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be.
As a friend, as a friend, as an known enemy.
Take your time, hurry up, choice is yours, don't be late.
Take a rest, as a friend, as an old memory
"
